Stir the eggnog, lift the toddy,Happy New Year, everybody.
A Toast to St. Patrick
Saint Patrick, the holy and tutelar man;
His beard down his bosom like Aaron's ran.
Some from Scotland, some from Wales,
will declare that's from where he came,
But I care not, now he's risen to fame.
The pride of the world and his enemies scorning,
I will drink to St Patrick, today, in the morning!
|But the greatest love -- the love above all loves,|
Even greater than that of a mother...
Is the tender, passionate, undying love,
Of one beer drunken slob for another.
|Health and a long life to you.|
Land without rent to you.
A child every year to you.
And if you can't go to heaven,
May you at least die in Ireland.
|May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past.
|May the leprechauns be near you,|
To spread luck along your way.
And may all the Irish angels,
Smile upon you St Patrick's Day.
|Beannachtam na Femle Padraig ("Happy St. Patrick's Day!")
|May I see you grey And combing your grandchildren's hair.
|May there be a generation of children On the children of your children.
|To all the days here and after May they be filled with fond memories, happiness, and laughter.
